The sin of a pronoun
Gods been teaching me a lot lately …
So I was listening to a sermon on the radio the other day (David Jerimiah on WMBI) thought i might share some of it with you. He was in the middle of a sermon series on something (i think it was about david); but one thing he said really jumped out at me. he called it “the sin of a pronoun”. heres a general summary of what the situation he described: David was refering to Israel as “my” nation. David then screwed up. God punished him, and David asked God to forgive him and not punish “his” (referring to God) people. the changing of one pronoun - from mine to yours - reflected an entire attitude change. david realized that everything he has had ever had, is a gift from God. he realized that he really doesn’t own anything. the earth is the Lords and everything in it. (that includes the money you have “earned” through your work). you can go further down that road if you want; but here is how it spoke to me.
i recently memorized jer 29:11 for i know the plans i have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
meanwhile, in my estudio Biblico (aka Bible study), we have been going through a series on maturing our faith. one of the things we recently discussed was when reading a familiar verse or repeating a memorized verse, try and emphasize different words. (i may go into more detail of the rest of this study in a future post, but not now).
the way i had been using this verse was a comfort knowing that the plan for my trip to mexico would not harm me, and give me hope for my future. but when i combine all three of these seemingly unrelated threads it comes out like this…
change the emphasis to the first part of the verse, focus on the pronoun, and *light bulb*
“
